Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Hi my name is Steph Kirk and I’m a portrait, fashion and product photographer/stylist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Two years ago when I was just 21 years old, my boyfriend Clutch and I started Studio Noire Noir, a photography studio here in downtown. He is the raddest, funniest, most selfless and hottest human on the planet. We are some of the lankiest people you will ever meet. I’m 5’11” and he’s 6’3” so we can be a little intimidating at first but I promise you were are gentle giants who are actually just dumb, joke slingin’ idiots. We have a dog named Mango who is our absolute pride and joy. I love music, fashion, interior design and Asian food. I also have a background in social media management and event curation.

What is your favorite part about being a photographer?

The human connection. Having your photos taken can be such a vulnerable and nerve-racking experience for most people. I love being able to get to know the person in front of my lens while we shoot and then after, helping them realize their beauty once they see the images. Nothing makes me happier than hearing clients say things like “I’ve always hated photos of myself but you have made me feel so beautiful and confident”. I for real cry so many happy tears every. single. time. I get those kinds of messages. There's nothing I want more than for people to feel empowered and have love and appreciation for themselves. It's so cool and I am so grateful that I get to help provide that. And don’t even get me started on the fact that I get to literally freeze time and moments of special life chapters for people as well.

On the creative spectrum, I also love having the ability to bring to life ideas, elements and concepts of things I’m drawn to. Self expression is so important and I love being able to showcase pieces of who I am through photos.

I’ve been doing photography since I was a kid. I learned on an old Canon AE-1 film camera and later learned to develop and print my own work in Jr. High. Dark rooms are pure magic. My older sisters and I would always take photos of each other and I learned a lot from watching them as well. I loved it and have known it was my path in life even as a child. It's very deep-rooted in me and means so much to me in so many aspects. To me, it's a big part of who I am and my history, not just something I do.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

This answer changes ALL the time for me. Constantly. Today I think I'd like to be laying in a sunny, grassy field in Switzerland. Yeah, that sounds pretty nice right now.
